The Zambia Police Service recorded a total of 65 criminal cases during the 97th Agricultural and Commercial Show held in Lusaka from July 30 to August 4, 2025.
According to Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, the breakdown of the cases includes 53 incidents of theft from persons, nine cases of general theft, one case of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (OABH), one incident of malicious damage to property, and one case of indecent assault on a female.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, Chilabi also disclosed that police recorded 19 contravention offences related to conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
“Most of the offenders were strongly warned and released, while others paid admission of guilt fines,” he said.
The total value of stolen property was estimated at K343,990, of which K16,105 had been recovered. Investigations and further recoveries ongoing.
A total of nine arrests were made in connection with the reported offences.

In comparison, the 2024 Show recorded 80 criminal cases, reflecting a 19 percent decrease in crime this year.
“Notably, there were no cases of motor vehicle theft, theft from motor vehicles, personation, or forgery reported in 2025,” Chilabi noted, adding that cases of assault and theft from persons also saw a reduction compared to the previous year.
He attributed the decline in crime to increased police visibility, strategic deployment of officers across the Showgrounds, and enhanced cooperation from the public.
“The Zambia Police Service remains committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and visitors during national events,” Chilabi said.
