Socialist Party National Youth Secretary, Stanly Muba’sa, has resigned from the party citing mistrust and betrayal from the top leadership.
In a letter dated 20 November 2025, Muba’sa said recent activities within the party, marked by mistrust and accusations, had left him feeling betrayed.
He accused some party officials of attempting to feed top leaders with falsehoods, lies and gossip in order to prove their relevance, instead of focusing on mobilising the masses.
“It is with a painful heart that I officially notify you of my resignation as National Youth Secretary, Member of the Central Committee, and Member of the Socialist Party, with immediate effect,” Muba’sa wrote.
He said the decision was difficult, particularly because of his close relationship with party President Dr. Fred M’membe, but he had resolved to move on.
Muba’sa expressed deep gratitude to M’membe for the unwavering support and guidance he received during his time in the party.
“Dr. M’membe has been more than a mentor to me; he has been a father figure who has built me and laid the foundation for my firm political stance,” he said.
Muba’sa added that M’membe’s commitment to socialist principles and his dedication to empowering young leaders had been a constant source of inspiration.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked under his leadership and for the invaluable lessons I have learned from him. He has trained me and taught me the art of leadership, and I will forever be grateful,” he said.
On November 2, Socialist Party Copperbelt Provincial Youth Chairperson, Warren Mulenga, resigned from the party, citing what he described as increasingly undemocratic conduct by the top leadership under party president Dr. Fred M’membe.

In a letter dated November 2, 2025, addressed to the party’s Secretary General Dr. Cosmas Musumali, Mulenga said the Socialist Party was founded on the principles of collective leadership, justice, equality, and the defense of truth.
He, however, said those principles were now being undermined by a leadership that had allegedly become intolerant of internal criticism and allergic to accountability.
Mulenga stated that the centralization of authority in a few individuals had eroded the spirit of comradeship and replaced democratic engagement with fear and conformity.
“It is with a heavy heart but firm political conviction that I tender my resignation as Copperbelt Provincial Youth Chairperson of the Socialist Party, effective immediately.
This decision has not come lightly. It follows a period of deep reflection on the increasingly undemocratic conduct in the top leadership of the party,” he said.
