President Hakainde Hichilema has called for peace and unity as the cornerstone of nation-building while donating K1 million towards the Ndeke Evangelical Church in Zambia (ECZ) building in Kitwe.
ECZ Ndeke Pastor in charge, Gershom Jere, expressed the Church’s appreciation for the President’s efforts in promoting peace and harmony in the country.
Addressing congregants in Kitwe on Sunday, Hichilema emphasized that unity and peace were essential for driving the country to greater heights.
“There is a need for consolidation, different beliefs, one God, which calls for coexistence among Zambians,” he said, highlighting the importance of preserving the peace Zambia has enjoyed since independence.
The President also assured that the government would continue collaborating with the Church to foster development.
Copperbelt Minister, Elisha Matambo, disclosed that President Hichilema’s contribution included K1 million towards completing the church building, as well as K200,000 to purchase a vehicle for the pastor in charge.
Pastor Jere noted that the country has experienced unprecedented peace since President Hichilema and the United Party for National Development (UPND) assumed power.
“We are happy that caderism is the thing of the past. This country saw maim before but seeing coexistence among political players,” he said.
He added that the Church supported constitutional amendments and actively participated in submissions to the technical committee during the Copperbelt sittings.
Pastor Jere also appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to extend voter registration ahead of the 2026 elections.
