The Citizens First party has adopted retired Captain Davison Mulenga as its candidate for the Chawama Parliamentary by-election scheduled for January, 2026.
Party spokesperson, Dalitso Tembo, announced the decision in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, noting Mulenga’s previous service as District Commissioner for Lusaka and Permanent Secretary for Muchinga Province under the Patriotic Front administration.
“His leadership record reflects the Citizens First party’s core values of integrity, unity, and development-driven governance, as well as a deep understanding of service delivery and grassroots development,” Tembo said.
He called on party members, supporters, and the public to support Mulenga and conduct peaceful, orderly, and issue-based campaigns in line with democratic principles.

The adoption follows the ruling United Party for National Development’s selection of Timothy Katenga as its candidate for the same by-election on Monday, December 15, 2025.
The Chawama seat was declared vacant by Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti after prolonged absence of area Member of Parliament Tasila Lungu.
The absence, linked to delays in the burial of her father, former President Edgar Lungu, left the constituency without representation.
